Pourquoi: Never use conditionnel after 'Si'! In past hypotheticals, the Si clause takes Plus-que-parfait (Si j'avais su), and the main clause takes Conditionnel Passé (je serais venu).
Si + Plus-que-parfait = Conditionnel Passé!
Type 3 Si Clause Formula: Si + Plus-que-parfait -> Conditionnel Passé. (Example: Si j'avais révisé, j'aurais réussi!).
In TEF Writing Task B, use a Type 3 Si Clause when writing your second argument paragraph: 'Si les autorités avaient pris cette mesure plus tôt, la crise aurait été résolue.' This guarantees high marks for complex syntactic structures.
