Mastering French Nouns
Nouns are the building blocks of any sentence. In French, understanding how nouns work is essential for agreement and sentence structure. Start your journey here and practice these concepts with PrepMyFrench interactive exercises.
What Exactly is a Noun?
A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. In French, every single noun carries a specific characteristic that dictates how the rest of the sentence behaves.
Unlike English, every French noun has a Gender (either Masculine or Feminine) and a Number (either Singular or Plural). This is why you'll always see them paired with articles like le, la, un, or une. To master these, check out the PrepMyFrench verb conjugator to see how nouns interact with different subjects.
