CLB 7 (Canadian Language Benchmark 7) is the French proficiency level required for most Express Entry programs to award maximum CRS points for French as a first official language. CLB 7 corresponds to TEF Canada scores of 207-232 (reading), 249-279 (listening), 310-348 (writing), 310-348 (speaking) — and equivalent ranges on TCF Canada (NCLC 7).
Why CLB 7 matters
Hitting CLB 7 in all four French abilities awards up to 50 CRS points under Express Entry — often the difference between getting an Invitation to Apply and waiting in the pool.
