Pronominal verbs are French verbs used with a reflexive pronoun that matches the subject, such as se laver, se souvenir, or s'intéresser. They can be reflexive, reciprocal, idiomatic, or passive in meaning. In compound tenses, they use être as the auxiliary.
Not every pronominal verb is literally reflexive. Se souvenir means to remember, and ça se dit means that is said or that is how people say it.
Pronominal verbs expand spoken range and are common in personal narratives, daily routines, opinions, and advanced writing.
