DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) is the official advanced French diploma issued by the French Ministry of Education, certifying CEFR levels C1 and C2. Like DELF, it is valid for life, and holders are exempt from the language tests French universities require of foreign applicants.
Four sections scored out of 25 each: listening (~40 min), reading (50 min), writing (2 h 30 — a synthèse of source documents plus an argumentative essay), and speaking (an exposé built from documents with 1 hour of preparation). Pass mark 50/100, minimum 5/25 per section.
Two combined papers of 50 points each: an oral paper (listening + speaking from an audio document) and a written paper (reading + writing from a dossier, ~700-word production). Minimum 10/50 per paper.
University applicants to selective French programs, francophone-sector professionals, and advanced learners who want lifetime proof above B2. DALF is not accepted for Canadian Express Entry — that requires TEF Canada or TCF Canada.
