又称: discours indirect · indirect speech · French reported speech
Reported speech, or discours indirect, reports someone's words without quoting them directly. French changes pronouns, time expressions, and sometimes verb tenses according to the reporting verb. Direct je viendrai demain can become il a dit qu'il viendrait le lendemain.
When the reporting verb is in the past, tense shifts often occur: présent to imparfait, passé composé to plus-que-parfait, and futur simple to conditionnel.
Reported speech supports summaries, narratives, and formal writing, and it is important for advanced comprehension and transformation tasks.
