Introduction: The Examiner's Job is to Say "No"

Do not take it personally. The examiner is not being rude; they are following the rules of the exam. The examiner's explicit instructions are to resist. They must force you to defend your ideas, pivot your arguments, and use persuasive French. The Psychology of the Roleplay

If the examiner says "Yes" after two minutes, the exam is over, and they cannot evaluate your vocabulary. Therefore, they will say "No" for at least 8 minutes.

Your goal is not to "win" the argument immediately. Your goal is to keep the conversation flowing smoothly, acknowledge their concerns, and offer creative counter-arguments.

The 3-Step "Objection Handling" Framework

When the examiner throws a massive objection at you, do not freeze, and do not repeat your previous argument. Use the A.V.C. Framework (Acknowledge, Validate, Counter).

Step 1: Acknowledge and Validate

Never say "Mais non, tu as tort !" (But no, you're wrong!). That is bad roleplay and poor persuasion. Instead, show high-level emotional intelligence (and high-level grammar) by validating their concern.

Templates to memorize:

• "Je comprends tout à fait tes réticences." (I completely understand your hesitations.)
• "C'est une inquiétude tout à fait légitime." (That is a completely legitimate concern.)
• "Je me disais exactement la même chose au début." (I was saying exactly the same thing to myself at first.)

Step 2: The Counter-Argument (Le Pivot)

Now that you have validated them, you pivot using a strong logical connector. This is where you score your C1 grammar points.

Templates to memorize:

• "Cependant, il faut prendre en compte que..." (However, we must take into account that...)
• "Néanmoins, l'avantage principal de ce programme, c'est que..." (Nevertheless, the main advantage of this program is that...)
• "En revanche, si on regarde sur le long terme..." (On the other hand, if we look long-term...)

Step 3: The Low-Risk Proposal

Do not ask them to commit their life savings or give up all their free time. Make a small, low-risk offer to keep the conversation moving.

Templates to memorize:

• "Écoute, on peut juste faire une séance d'essai gratuite. Ça ne t'engage à rien." (Listen, we can just do a free trial session. It doesn't commit you to anything.)
• "Qu'est-ce que tu dirais d'y aller juste pour une heure, et si ça ne te plaît pas, on rentre ?" (What would you say to just going for an hour, and if you don't like it, we go home?)

Common Examiner Objections (And How to Beat Them)

Prepare for these three universal objections, as they appear in almost every Section B scenario.

1. The "No Time" Objection Examiner: "Je suis débordé au travail, je n'ai pas une minute à moi le week-end." (I'm overwhelmed at work, I don't have a minute to myself on weekends.) Your Response: "Raison de plus pour venir ! Tu as besoin de décompresser. C'est essentiel pour éviter le burn-out." (All the more reason to come! You need to decompress.
