Je me permets de reagir a l'opinion selon laquelle les immigrants n'auraient pas besoin d'apprendre le francais s'ils maitrisent deja l'anglais. A mon avis, cette position est comprehensible, mais trop limitee dans le contexte canadien.

En premier lieu, le Canada est un pays officiellement bilingue. Meme si l'anglais permet de travailler et de vivre dans plusieurs provinces, le francais ouvre des portes importantes, notamment dans la fonction publique, l'education, la sante et les services a la clientele. Un immigrant qui parle les deux langues peut participer plus pleinement a la societe et acceder a davantage d'occasions professionnelles.

Cependant, il serait injuste de presenter l'apprentissage du francais comme une obligation punitive. Beaucoup de nouveaux arrivants travaillent, etudient et soutiennent leur famille en meme temps.
