How lessons work

01

Book in one click

Browse the tutor directory at /tutors, view a tutor profile, see their availability and per-hour rate, pick a slot. The lesson appears here in your lessons hub the moment the booking is confirmed.
02

Join from the dashboard

At lesson time, you join the video call directly from your dashboard — no Zoom, no Meet, no extra app to install. The tutor and student share a private room, and the session recording (if enabled) sits in your account afterwards for review.
03

Combine with AI practice

The pattern most students use: AI practice every day for volume (5–10 short speaking and writing sessions), then weekly tutor lessons targeting your specific weak section. The two reinforce each other and produce a usable score faster than either alone.

Frequently asked

How do I book a lesson?+

Browse the tutor directory at /tutors. Each profile shows specialisation (TEF, TCF, Express Entry, conversational), per-hour rate, weekly availability, and recent activity. Click a tutor to view their profile and pick an available slot. The lesson then appears in your lessons hub here, with the option to message the tutor before the session.

What does a lesson cost?+

Each tutor sets their own per-hour rate — typically $25–$60 CAD for exam-focused coaching. You pay per session; there is no platform subscription on top of the tutor fee. See pricing transparently on each tutor profile before you book.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?+

Yes — from the lesson card here in your hub, up to 24 hours before the session, at no charge. Within 24 hours, cancellation policies are set by the tutor (some are flexible, some require partial fee). The policy is visible on the tutor profile before you book.

How does this compare to language exchange partners?+

Tutors are paid professionals who structure the lesson around your goals (exam prep, conversational fluency, grammar gaps). Language partners (free at /partners) are other learners at your level for casual practice. Most users do both — partners for daily conversational reps, tutors for targeted weekly coaching.

Do I need to take the placement test to book a lesson?+

No — anyone can book a tutor lesson. The CEFR placement test gates only the free language-partner exchanges (so partners are matched at compatible levels). For paid one-on-one tutor lessons, no placement test is required.
