Indirect questions embed a question inside a statement or another question in French. They do not use inversion. Yes/no questions use si, and information questions keep the question word, with forms such as ce que and ce qui when needed.
Direct où habite-t-il? becomes je ne sais pas où il habite. Direct qu'est-ce qu'il veut? becomes je ne sais pas ce qu'il veut.
