The Ultimate 30-Day Intensive TEF/TCF Study Plan

The Ultimate 30-Day Intensive TEF/TCF Study Plan
So you booked your exam, life got in the way, and now you have exactly 30 days until your TEF or TCF Canada test. Panic is setting in.
First: take a deep breath. If you are starting from absolute zero, 30 days is not enough to reach NCLC 7. However, if you already have a foundation (upper B1 / low B2) and simply haven't studied the exam format, 30 days is plenty of time to optimize your strategy and secure your PR points.
Here is a ruthless, highly-optimized 30-day intensive study plan designed to maximize your NCLC score.
The Philosophy of the 30-Day Sprint
You do not have time to casually learn new vocabulary or casually watch movies. Your only goal is Exam Engineering.
You will focus 80% of your energy on the Active Modules (Speaking and Writing). Why? Because Listening and Reading are passive skills that take months to improve. Speaking and Writing are deeply structural; if you learn the correct formulas, you can jump an entire NCLC level in weeks.
Phase 1: Bootcamp & Analysis (Days 1 - 7)
Goal: Understand exactly what the examiner wants.
- Day 1: The Diagnostic. Take a full, timed mock exam (Reading and Listening). Find out your baseline.
- Day 2: Writing Blueprints. Study the mandatory structure. For TEF Section A (Fait Divers), memorize the 5-paragraph inverted pyramid structure. Write your first essay.
- Day 3: Speaking Section A (Info Gathering). Memorize the 10 formal question structures (Est-ce que... / Pourriez-vous m'indiquer... / Serait-il possible de...). Do 3 mock role-plays.
- Day 4: Speaking Section B (Persuasion). Learn the art of concession. Memorize transition phrases (Bien que je comprenne ton point de vue, il faut considérer...).
- Day 5-7: Daily Integration. Start doing 1 Writing Task and 1 Speaking role-play every single day.

Phase 2: The Grammar Polish (Days 8 - 14)
Goal: Eliminate A2 mistakes and inject C1 structures.
You cannot reinvent your grammar in a month, but you can memorize "Golden Sentences." Examiners are looking for specific structures to award a B2/C1.
- Focus 1: Le Subjonctif. Memorize 3 trigger phrases (Il est essentiel que... / Bien que... / En attendant que...) and use them forcefully in every essay and speaking test.
- Focus 2: Connectors. Stop using Mais and Parce que. Replace them immediately with Cependant, Néanmoins, En raison de, and Puisque.
- Focus 3: Conditional. Practice forming the present conditional (Je voudrais, ça serait) to sound polite and formulate hypotheses.
- Actionable: Spend 30 minutes a day actively inserting these advanced structures into your daily practice essays.
Phase 3: The Pressure Cooker (Days 15 - 25)
Goal: Simulate exam conditions to eliminate panic.
Your French level naturally drops by 20% when the timer starts. You must acclimate to the pressure.
- Timing: Stop writing on Word Processors. Handwrite your essays (if taking paper format) or type them strictly within the 60-minute limit without spellcheck.
- The AI Speaking Test: Humans are too nice. You need an examiner who cuts you off and argues aggressively. Use the AI Voice Examiner on PrepMyFrench.com. Do a Section B argument, and force yourself not to freeze when the AI rejects your ideas.
- Audio Overload: For your passive listening, listen to RFI or fast-paced podcasts at 1.2x speed. When you get to the real exam, the audio will feel much slower and more manageable.

Phase 4: Tapering and Review (Days 26 - 30)
Goal: Rest the brain and solidify confidence.
Do not learn new concepts in the last 4 days.
- Day 26-28: Review your corrected essays. Write down the 5 grammar mistakes you make most frequently and put that list on your wall.
- Day 29: Do one light Speaking module to keep the vocal cords warm. Read some French articles. Go to bed early.
- Day 30: Do not study. Mental fatigue is your biggest enemy.
The Required Tools for the Sprint
To execute this 30-day plan, you cannot rely on slow feedback loops. Waiting 3 days for a tutor to email your essay corrections back is unacceptable.
