State-by-State Search Map

Use this as a planning map, not as a substitute for the official center finder. Session availability changes, and some centers only post dates a few months ahead.

If you live in...	Search these cities first	Booking note
California	Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego	Check both Northern and Southern California if your target date is close.
Washington / Oregon	Seattle, Portland	Seattle often has more French-exam infrastructure than smaller Pacific Northwest cities.
Nevada / Arizona	Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix area	If local dates are thin, California may be faster.
Texas	Houston, Dallas, Austin	Texas candidates should compare driving distance with session timing.
Florida	Miami, Orlando, Tampa area	Miami is often the first city to check because of its francophone community.
Georgia / Carolinas	Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh area	Search nearby states if no full four-skill date appears.
Illinois / Wisconsin / Indiana	Chicago

The practical rule: search within a 300-500 mile radius, not just your city. Losing a month waiting for a local seat can cost more than a flight.

How Far Ahead Should You Book?

For US-based candidates, the safest timeline is:

Timeline	What to do
12 weeks before target date	Search all nearby centers and create a shortlist.
8-10 weeks before	Register if a suitable full TEF Canada session is open.
6 weeks before	Begin full timed mocks for writing and speaking.
3 weeks before	Stop learning new grammar; focus on exam execution.
Final week	Rehearse Section A and Section B speaking daily.

If you are applying through Express Entry, remember that test results must still be valid when you complete your profile and submit your PR application. IRCC states that language test results must be less than two years old.
