Master TCF Canada Writing Task 3: The 4-Step "I-D-E-A" Synthesis Framework
Task 3 of the TCF Canada Writing Exam (Expression Écrite) is widely considered the most difficult part of the writing test. You are presented with two short documents expressing opposing viewpoints on a modern societal issue (e.g., "Should public transport be completely free?" or "Is advertising in public spaces acceptable?").
You must accomplish a double objective in minimum 120 to 180 words:
- Synthesize the arguments of both documents.
- Express your own opinion and justify it.
Many candidates struggle because they try to write two separate essays, exceeding the word limit and running out of time. Others copy sentences directly from the prompt, which triggers immediate score penalties from the automated and human examiners.
