The Subjunctive 'Cheat Sheet' for CLB 7+

The Subjunctive "Cheat Sheet" for CLB 7+
The Subjonctif is the gatekeeper of the C1 level. In TEF/TCF Speaking Task B (Persuasion), using the subjunctive correctly demonstrates that you can handle complex grammar structures.
Many students are scared of it. But you don't need to know every single exception. You just need a few "Trigger Phrases" ready to fire.
Why use it?
The subjunctive expresses subjectivity: doubt, emotion, necessity, possibility. In Task B (Convincing a friend), you are constantly expressing opinions and feelings. It's the perfect place to use it.
Top 5 "Trigger Phrases" for Task B
Memorize these 5 sentence starters. They ALWAYS require the subjunctive.
1. "Il faut que..." (It is necessary that...)
Use this to give advice or pressure your friend.
The Irregular Verbs You MUST Know
Don't worry about rare verbs. Focus on these 4 giants in Subjunctive form:
- Être (To be): ... que je sois, que tu sois, qu'il soit.
- Avoir (To have): ... que j'aie, que tu aies, qu'il ait.
- Faire (To do): ... que je fasse, que tu fasses.
- Aller (To go): ... que j'aille, que tu ailles.
Strategy: Write down 3 sentences using "Il faut que" and "Bien que" relevant to common topics (Sports, Travel, Work). Recite them until they flow naturally.
