DELF B2 Production Orale: 10 Role-Play Scenarios for Real-Life Situations

The DELF B2 production orale is not a casual conversation. It is a structured, two-part test where you must first present and defend an opinion on a short text, then engage in a role-play with the examiner. The role-play, or exercice en interaction, is where many candidates lose points because they freeze, forget to negotiate, or fail to use the right register. This article gives you 10 realistic role-play scenarios that mirror what actually appears on exam day. Each scenario includes a sample dialogue, the key phrases you need, and the specific point the examiner is checking. After working through these, you will be able to handle any surprise topic with confidence and flexibility.

You: Ce n’est pas grave. Pourriez-vous corriger l’addition, s’il vous plaît ?

Q: How long is the role-play part of the DELF B2 oral exam?
A: The entire oral exam lasts about 20 minutes: 10 minutes of preparation for the exposé, then 10-15 minutes of speaking (5-7 minutes for the exposé and 5-8 minutes for the role-play). The role-play itself is typically 3-5 minutes.
Q: What if I don’t understand the examiner’s role-play prompt?
A: You can ask for clarification once. Say: Excusez-moi, pourriez-vous répéter la situation ? or Je n’ai pas bien compris, est-ce que je suis le client ou l’employé ? The examiner will rephrase.
Q: Can I use informal language in the role-play?
A: It depends on the scenario. If you are talking to a friend or classmate, tu is fine. If you are talking to a manager, landlord, or customer service agent, use vous. Using the wrong register can cost you points.
Q: What is the most common mistake candidates make?
A: Giving up after the first refusal. The examiner is trained to push back. You must insist politely and propose alternatives. If you say d’accord and stop, you lose points for interaction.
