TEF Canada Speaking Section B: Dealing with an Aggressive Examiner (Roleplay Guide)
Introduction: The Examiner's Job is to Say "No"
Many candidates walk into the TEF Canada Speaking Section B (Expression Orale) expecting a friendly conversation. They are shocked when the examiner shoots down every argument, raises their voice slightly, and acts completely uninterested in whatever is being pitched.
Do not take it personally. The examiner is not being rude; they are following the rules of the exam. In Section B, you have 10 minutes to convince a friend (the examiner) to join you in an activity (e.g., a yoga retreat, a new business venture, a digital detox). The examiner's explicit instructions are to resist. They must force you to defend your ideas, pivot your arguments, and use persuasive French. In this guide, we will show you how to handle an "aggressive" examiner and turn their objections into CLB 9 points.
