How DALF Centres Work in France

DALF is administered under France Éducation international through approved centres. Not every DELF centre offers C1/C2 on every calendar.

When searching:

Filter for centres that explicitly list DALF C1 and/or C2.
Confirm separate registration deadlines and fees (usually higher than DELF).
Check whether oral and written components share the same day.
Verify result timelines against university or employer deadlines.

City cluster	Practical note
Paris / Île-de-France	Most session variety; book early for preferred dates
Lyon	Strong alternative when Paris is full
Marseille / Nice / Toulouse / Bordeaux	Check C1/C2 availability case by case—do not assume every DELF centre offers DALF

City DELF guides (useful when comparing travel options): Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nice, Toulouse.

What C1 and C2 Actually Test

DALF C1

C1 expects autonomous advanced French: long listening/reading documents, structured synthesis writing, and speaking that handles abstract topics with nuance.

DALF C2

C2 pushes toward near-native control: denser documents, finer argumentation, and sustained precision under pressure. Many candidates stop at C1 unless a programme explicitly requires C2.

Skill	What examiners notice
Listening / reading	Can you extract structure and stance from long authentic texts?
Writing	Can you synthesise sources without copying, then argue clearly?
Speaking	Can you present, nuance, and defend without collapsing into lists?

Method guide: DALF C1 synthèse step by step.

Study Plan Before a French DALF Session

Phase	Focus
Weeks −6 to −4	Diagnostic mock + weekly authentic press/radio input
Weeks −3 to −2	Synthesis drills + timed argumentative writing
Final week	Full mock, oral defence practice, sleep and logistics

Do not prepare DALF like DELF B2 with only short opinion speeches. You need document handling, synthesis discipline, and longer speaking stamina.

DELF	A1–B2	Residence steps, many university paths, nationality (often B2)
DALF	C1–C2	Advanced studies, high-skill careers, near-native certification
